Our commitment to accessibility

At Posterlounge GmbH, we are committed to ensuring digital accessibility across our 17 online shops and associated systems. Our aim is to make our products, customer service and support accessible to everyone. This statement outlines our efforts to comply with national laws and international web accessibility standards.

Our efforts to improve digital accessibility

Since February 2025

  • Ongoing training for our internal accessibility contacts, who are responsible for establishing standards and ensuring quality
  • Expansion of our FAQs and customer support to include specific answers on using our online shop in an accessible way
  • Regular staff training and briefings in the content, design and development departments to embed accessibility into our processes – including maintaining an accessible website and the creation of accessible PDFs and social media posts
  • Company-wide general training sessions through our internal learning platform for all Posterlounge GmbH employees, to raise awareness of digital accessibility and explain how to apply relevant standards
  • The use of powerful technologies such as ‘Algolia’ to provide fast, intuitive search and filter functions for our users
  • An option to skip directly to the main content via a link that allows users to bypass the header section – our support and FAQ sections are accessible directly above the main menu to ensure quick assistance

Compliance status

Posterlounge GmbH adheres to the recommendations of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, to improve accessibility for people with disabilities.

Our 17 online shops are partially compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines – WCAG 2.2 Level AA and the European standard EN 301 549.

Known accessibility issues and workarounds

  • PDF documents on product pages (e.g. care instructions) are mostly not accessible. Alternatively, information is available via our customer support or in our FAQs.
  • Some navigation elements lack alternative text, such as arrow icons for paging through product overview sections (for example, in the “Posters” section). We offer clearly labelled page indicators instead: ‘PAGE 1’, ‘PAGE 2’, etc.
  • Our videos lack subtitles or audio descriptions. These are mainly visual clips showing artworks in home settings. We use descriptive titles and alt text in the HTML source code so screen readers can help convey the content. Alt text is also accessible via a tooltip icon that can be clicked or navigated using a keyboard.
  • Autoplay videos are used on campaign pages for marketing purposes, but users can pause them with a button. As a general rule, we avoid flashing elements and rapid cuts.
  • Keyboard focus and navigation order are not always intuitive – improvements are planned for 2025 on product pages and in the checkout process.
  • No content in Easy Read: we prioritise clear and understandable language across all content, so we do not provide separate Easy Read versions.

Tools and testing

We regularly review and test our content using selected tools to ensure compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

  • Audit methodology BITV self-assessment (the “Barrierefreie-Informationstechnik-Verordnung“ is the German regulation on accessible information technology)
  • Most recently comprehensively checked: from 29/01/2025 to 12/02/2025
  • In progress: We’re continuously testing various campaign pages and newly created sub-pages
  • Additional tools used in the browser (Chrome):
    • Lighthouse: An open-source tool that assesses performance and quality, including digital accessibility
    • Silktide Accessibility Checker: An open-source tool for evaluating individual websites according to WCAG criteria with proposals for optimisation
